If you’ve researched chelation for heart health, you’ve probably seen the TACT trial mentioned. Here’s what it actually found — without the hype.
What TACT was
The Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy (TACT) was a large, NIH-funded study of EDTA chelation in patients who had previously had a heart attack.
What it found
TACT reported a reduction in cardiovascular events among participants — with the clearest benefit in patients who also had diabetes. A follow-up study (TACT2) continued to investigate these findings.
What it does and doesn’t prove
The results were encouraging but not definitive, and researchers called for further study. Chelation for heart disease remains an alternative therapy — not a replacement for conventional cardiac care.
How we talk about it
We’ll always give you an honest, balanced picture of the evidence so you can make an informed decision about whether chelation fits your situation.
